SPINNING ROCK OUTLINES EXCITING NEW FEATURES FROM SNAPCHAT’S PARTNER SUMMIT

Snapchat Partner Summit – June 11, 2020

Summary: On June 11, 2020, Snapchat (NYSE: SNAP) held their annual Partner Summit where they feature current and near-future projects from companies who have integrated Snapchat products into their core functionalities. Below are our thoughts on the new and exciting augmented reality features and products Snapchat has announced as well as some examples of how you can use these new offerings to boost your brand.

Snap Scan: “Press and hold” on the camera screen to unlock relevant, helpful Lenses based on what you see in front of you.

Additionally, we’re introducing Voice Scan, which offers Lens results based on your voice commands. Powered by our partnership with SoundHound, press and hold to tell Snapchat what kind of Lens you want to see.

Spinning Rock Notes:

If any part of this presentation should catch your eye – it’s Snap Scan. Snapchat users can now discover and automatically begin using your brand’s lenses by simply scanning your brand or products with the Snap Camera or by saying the name of your brand or product into their phone’s microphone.

No more links, no more QR codes, no more custom packaging – users just ‘Shazam’ your augmented reality content in a single step.

Scannable items aren’t limited to packaging or graphics either – check out this video using Snap Scan on a stop sign to activate one of Spinning Rock’s lenses:   YOUTUBE LINK

Dynamic Lenses:

Bring real-time information from your apps into Snapchat lenses.

Spinning Rock Notes:

Snapchat lenses can now be configured to react to real-time information from your native application. For example, Rally Road has integrated real-time pricing into their product preview lenses. Users of their app can tap “Preview product in Snapchat” to open the corresponding 3D preview with up-to-the-minute pricing data integrated into the scene. (Image 1a)

Outside of price tags, other features of a lens could be configured to change depending on the latest news or trends captured by your application. This can help keep your content fresh and relevant, encouraging your audience to continually re-engage and share.

Snap Camera Kit:

Bring the power of Snapchat’s Camera into your app and create unique AR experiences.  Camera Kit is a complete end-to-end solution to include Snap’s AR platform into your own applications. Access a turnkey suite of tools and services from AR Lens creation to Lens carousel management and analytics, to enable AR technology for your community.

Spinning Rock Notes:

The Snap Camera Kit essentially gives you Snap’s AR camera functionality, directly in your app. If you’re looking to integrate AR into your native application, this not only cuts down on development time and cost, it also provides your users with the most sophisticated augmented reality camera technology available on mobile devices.

Local Lenses:

Local Lenses enable a persistent, shared AR world built right on top of your neighborhood. You and your friends can step into augmented reality together to decorate nearby buildings with colorful paint and experience a new dimension of AR.

Spinning Rock Notes:

Local Lenses turn physical spaces into digital canvases for people to paint and interact with together. Let customers add branded or personalized digital stickers to your storefront or create a virtual mural for all to see.

Think – Digital, personalized graffiti tied to a physical location.

SnapML (Snapchat Machine Learning):

Today, we’re introducing SnapML, which lets any developer bring their own machine learning models directly into Lens Studio to power Lenses. Now, anyone can create their own Lenses with neural networks, expanding the possibilities for Lenses that can transform the world.

Spinning Rock Notes:

Machine Learning is what allows Snapchat lenses to accurately identify and add augmented reality content to your face, your floor, and your pets. And now, Snapchat has opened up this functionality to creators and brands, essentially allowing you to customize what objects are tracked and how those objects interact with your lenses. From tracking feet so users can virtually try on shoes, to adding virtual instruction manuals overlaid on your products, to real-time Prisma filters – SnapML can make it a reality.
